Dr. Paul is President and Chief Executive Officer of LineaGen Partners in Salt Lake City, Utah, a content-based biomarker company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel, patentable diagnostic tests leading to more personalized medical treatments for the world’s leading diseases. LineaGen leverages Utah’s core competitive advantage in human genetic research through the use of unparalleled population database assets that are coupled to human biological samples and clinical data. Michael is also the acting CEO of Respiris, Inc., which is a spin-out of LineaGen and the University of Utah and is focused on respiratory diseases. Respiris is uniquely positioned for its start-up stage of development with two Fortune 100 partnerships and more than $12M in committed contractual revenues. As CEO, Michael is responsible for all operational, budget, and corporate development activities for both LineaGen and Respiris.
Prior to LineaGen Partners and Respiris, Michael was Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Corporate Development for LineaGen Research Corporation, the non-profit precursor organization to LineaGen Partners. Prior to joining LineaGen Research Corporation, Michael worked for the start-up company Huntsman Biotechnology Corporation as V.P., Business Development and for the publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as Director, Strategic Development. In these roles, he led multidisciplinary product development teams, formulated strategic development alternatives for management, and was responsible for the strategic management of corporate intellectual property.
Dr. Paul also interned at the University of Utah Technology Transfer Office where he participated in the marketing of University inventions to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He received his B.A. in Biology from ColbyCollege and his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Utah. Dr. Paul is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
